Guide on How To Obtain Driving Licence Details

Since 8 June 2015, the paper counterpart section of the driving licence has no legal status – see https://www.gov.uk/government/news/driving-licence-changes. Obtaining a copy driving licence is however a relatively simple process, involving the driver obtaining a code and then providing this to the company, along with the last 8 characters of their driving licence number, as follows:

STAGE ONE

The Driving Licence Holder will need to log into the Driving Licence Portal at
https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence.

They will need to input:

– their National Insurance Number
– their Driving Licence Number
– the Postcode at which the driving licence is registered

Once logged in, there are 4 tabs as follows:
– Your details
– Vehicles you can drive
– Penalties and disqualifications
– Share your licence information

It is the last tab, share your licence information, that needs to be selected along with the option to Create a Code. A unique licence check code will be created.

To share the licence details with a company, the Driving Licence Holder will need to provide the company with the unique licence check code and the last 8 characters of their driving licence number

STAGE TWO

The company can then log into https://www.gov.uk/check-driving-information, to view the driving licence details on screen and save as a pdf.
